This treasure of Vitamin C is native from Southern part of Mexico. It also has sufficient quantities of Vitamin A, B1, B2 and B3. It is also well ranked among Anti-Oxidants due to carotenoids and bioflavonoids present in it. The scientific name of this fruit is Malpighia emarginata and it belongs to the Malpighiales family of the fruits.


The taste of fruit ranges from sour to sweet. It is red in colour and is in the from of bright red drupes which are juicy and extremely rich in Vitamin C. Each 100 gram of fruit has 1677.6 mg of Vitamin C.













It’s uses include:

  1. For preparing vitamin C concentrates
  2. For Juices and Pulps.
  3. Baby Food.
 
It’s other names include acerola, Barbados cherry, West Indian cherry and wild crapemyrtle.
